Monsoon reaches Konkan, continues steady advance

Pune: India Meteorological Department (IMD), on Thursday, said that favourable conditions are developing for the further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of Konkan and interior Karnataka, parts of Madhya Maharashtra, some more parts of Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh, central and north Bay of Bengal and remaining parts of Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya, besides some parts of sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next two to three days.

Pune: India Meteorological Department (IMD), on Thursday, said that favourable conditions are developing for the further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of Konkan and interior Karnataka, parts of Madhya Maharashtra, some more parts of Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh, central and north Bay of Bengal and remaining parts of Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya, besides some parts of sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next two to three days.

The IMD noted that the southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of central Arabian sea, remaining parts of coastal Karnataka and entire Goa, some parts of Konkan and some more parts of interior Karnataka. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Konkan and Goa from June 9.

Similarly, in this week, heavy rains are expected in Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha. Thunderstorm accompanied by gusty winds are very likely at isolated places in Vidarbha on June 10 followed by heavy rains during this week.

Across the country, IMD predicted that rains are likely at most places over west coast and northeastern states and also at many places over Maharashtra.

A few places over West Bengal, Sikkim and Odisha will also experience rain. Rain is likely at isolated places over east and peninsular India and western Himalayan region over next 48 hours. There will be no significant change in maximum temperatures over most part of the country during next 48 hours and rise by two to three degree Celsius over northwest India thereafter.
