A the age of 19, Shubham Gupta donned a uniform to pursue his dream of proving himself in battle protecting our motherland. Today, he is fighting a different battle! A battle to survive, a battle to stand on his own feet! There is complete policy paralysis when it comes to injured cadets.

Like Shubham, there are 147 other cadets (since 2001) from Pune-based National Defence Academy (NDA), who have been medically boarded out owing to injuries sustained during training, with no medical facility or rehabilitation. The government gives them Rs 3,500 ‘exgratia’ per month to sustain their livelihood. Such is the lethargy that many disabled cadets are still struggling to get their exgratia amount. Now an online petition has been started demanding medical cover, disability pension respectable to the rank trained for and option for shelter employment in other government departments in officer cadre.
