VK Murthy Festival concludes at FTII

The VK Murthy Festival, organised as a tribute to the veteran cinematographer VK Murthy concluded on Sunday with discussions on the works of Murthy, and screening of some of his brilliant works. The second day of the festival began with a screening of Light Shadow and Me, a Films Division documentary directed by Manohar Bisht on Murthy. Cinematographer Govind Nihalani, during his talk ‘VK as my Mentor’, elaborated his master’s collaboration with the director and other contributors of a film including actors, that enriched the making of the classics he shot. The lyrical approach in the songs shot by Murthy was illustrated by veteran cinematographer AS Kanal.  Cinematographers Govind Nihalani, AK Bir, Jehangir Choudhary, Dharam Gulati and GS Bhaskar participated in a panel discussion on ‘Director’s and Cinematographer’s synergetic collaboration in Indian cinema and its relevance in today’s digital era’.  A walk through was organised in Prabhat Studio where a number of cameras, including Arri II C, Arri II A, Arri III, Arri 16 SR, etc. besides video cameras by Sony, Canon, Ikegami were on display. The second day concluded with the screening of the classic film Kagaz Ke Phool.
