Co-stars share fond memories of TV and film veteran Lagoo

Mohnish Behl, who worked with Lagoo in several films, said, “In the 90s and early 2000, we worked together in many films. Though she was just 5 or 6 years elder to me and my contemporaries like Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan she has mostly played our onscreen mother. It’s a huge loss because she was such a warm, understanding, welcoming, dignified and gracious person. She was a very talented actress.”

PUNE: Veteran actress Reema Lagoo’s co-stars from the film and TV industry are still in shock over her sudden demise. The actress passed away at the age of 59 after suffering from a cardiac arrest on Thursday.

Lagoo had worked extensively in Hindi and Marathi films and TV.  She began her career with Marathi theatre. She made her debut in films with Marathi film Sinhasan. Over three-and-a-half decades, Lagoo went on to play character roles. Some of her memorable films include Maine Pyaar Kiya, Saajan, Yes Boss, Hum Saath Saath Hai and Vaastav.

“I have lost a mother again. We worked together in several movies and every time I worked with her, I learnt something new. Her demise has left a void which is difficult to fill. May God give strength to her family and loved ones,” Sanjay Dutt said. Dutt has played Lagoo’s onscreen son in Sajaan, Vastaav and other films.

He added, “She was the kind of co-star with whom I liked to share a chat before shooting. I hadn’t met her for a long time. We have mostly worked in Sooraj Barjatya films, and the next time he makes another project with his regular group of actors, she won’t be a part of it, which will be heartbreaking.”

Lagoo was currently playing one of the pivotal roles in Star Plus show Naamkaran and her co-star Sayantani Ghosh is in a state of shock over the news. “She shot with us till 7 pm yesterday, I still can’t come to terms with the fact that she is no more. She was all hale and hearty. Reemaji had just returned from holidays and was glowing. In fact, we kept telling her how the holiday had worked for her.”

Ghosh adds that Lagoo was a brilliant actor and it was a learning experience working with her. “We have been shooting together for a year now. Viraf (Patel) and I had the maximum scenes with her. There are so many memories. We had become like a family. I love poha and Reemaji would get poha for me. She was particular about her tiffin case. She asked me about the tiffin. She loved fish delicacies. I wanted to return the tiffin with some fish curry but it never happened and the tiffin now stays with me.”

Marathi actor Girish Kulkarni said, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of Reema Lagoo at such an early age. She has been a wonderful person and actress and it is hard to fill the shoes she has left behind. It is absolute cruelty of life that she was taken away from us so soon. I am in such a shock that such an inspiring and amazing human being is not with us anymore. I have had the privilege of working with her and it was wonderful.”
