A showcase of millets, music and mangoes at Mudassachem Fest in Goa

MUDASSACHEM FEST IN GOA

Mudassachem Fest, a celebration of millets, mangoes and music, which was held at Ela farm, Old Goa, on Sunday, was organised by the Goa College of Agriculture, Old Goa.

MANGO PASOI

The festival began with a mango pasoi (walk).

ABOUT THE WALK

The walk was conducted by assistant professor of horticulture at the Goa College of Agriculture, Arjun Parab, who explained the many benefits of the mango tree and its leaves.

HOMEMADE PRODUCTS

There were more than 15 vendors, who displayed numerous homemade products made of millets, plants, handicrafts, mangoes, etc.

AN ANNUAL AFFAIR

Principal of the Goa College of Agriculture, Old Goa, Dr Suresh Kunkalikar, offered to provide all possible help to the farmers to grow their produce. He also announced that the Mudassachem Fest would be an annual event, while a Millet Fest would will be held in October 2023.

GOVERNMENT INITIATIVE

Curator of the fest, Marius Fernandes, spoke about the essence of millet promotion by the government, and its efforts to create awareness and nutritional progammes so as to educate and encourage the new generation to include millets in their diet.

MANGO & FOOD

At the event, there were workshops on preparation of mango pickle and mango leaf tea. This was followed by a scrumptious Goan mango thali consisting of ukde rice, mango curry, mango sasav, mango miskut and mango chutney, all prepared by the local womenfolk.

TYPES OF BREAD & HERITAGE ITEMS

There was also a display of a variety of breads and other items of heritage importance at the Mudassachem Fest on Sunday at Ela farm, Old Goa.
