CUSTOMARY SCENES

While the major cities resonate with the sounds of the dhol, tashe on Goa's streets, in the quiet interiors, there are customs and unique rituals that are widely prevalent during this time.

IN A TRANCE

In areas like Sal, Pilgao-Bicholim, a ritual known as Gade, is a huge part of Shigmo, where some men go into a trance and chase a fire which 'appears' in the distance.

BENEATH THE EARTH

According to legend, at one point in time several innocent people were killed under the mistaken assumption that they were thieves. As an act of repentance, Chorotsav is held in the villages of Zarme and Caranzol in Sattari.
