REMEMBERING CAMOES

Instituto Camoes, Panjim, along with the Consulate General of Portugal in Goa and the Camoes-Centro de Lingua Portuguesa, is marking the 500^th birth anniversary of the poet, Luis de Camoes, with an art exhibition ‘Os Rostos De Camoes’.

ARTISTIC ANGLES

The exhibition features the works of 8 Goan artists – Francis DeSousa, Nishant Saldanha, Shailesh Dabholkar, Verodina Ferrao, Viraj Naik, Vitesh Naik, Yolanda de Sousa Kammermeier and Savia Viegas – interpreting the poems of Camoes through art.

FACES OF CAMOES

Artist Viraj Naik has interpreted the face of Camoes through his series, ‘Faces of Camoes’.

CAMOES E PANJIM HOJE

‘Camoes E Panjim Hoje’ is the interpretation by artist Yolanda de Sousa Kammermeier.

AQUELA CATIVA

In her artwork, artist Verodina Ferrao reimagines Camoes’ poem Aquela Cativa (That Slave), which reflects on the theme of love.

CAMOES I LONGING

‘Camoes I Longing’, by Vitesh Naik, showcases Camoes, with elements of sailing, longing, etc.

EASTERN INFLUENCES

The exhibition includes poems by Camoes, and as Delfim Correia da Silva, Director of CLP–Camoes Goa, explains, the poet’s move to the East — especially to India and Goa, in particular — brought a new dimension to his writing.
