SCI-FFI 2025: Celebrating science, innovation, sustainability in Goa

SCIENCE FEST

The 10^th edition of the Science Film Festival (SCI-FFI) & Expo, organised by Goa’s Vidnyan Parishad, is currently underway (January 29 – February 1, 2025) in Goa.

GREEN THEME

While Goa emerges as a hub for scientific research and education, the theme for this year’s festival is ‘Green Revolution’.

FIRST TIME

Conceptualised by the former Chief Minister of Goa, Manohar Parrikar, and scientist Jayantrao Sahasrabuddhe, this is the first time that the festival is being held in three locations across Goa – Panjim, Sankhali and Margao.

BRAINS BEHIND THE SCIENCE

One of the attractions of the festival is the ‘Meet The Scientists’ session featuring prominent scientists like Dr Amit Vernekar, Dr Nandini Harinath, Dr Sharad Kale and Dr Sanjay Deshmukh, among others.

NOW SHOWING

Two to three sci-fi movies are being screened at ESG Inox, in Panjim, daily. The list includes films like Theory Of Everything, Parmanu, Bumblebee and Oppenheimer to name a few.

WORLD OF SCIENCE

Apart from films, the festival line-up includes exciting science and tech activities – Vigyanika: Students Science Village, Aahar-Kranti, robotics and drone workshops, Kuthuhal Science Expo gallery, film making, reel making, SCiFFi-Challenge, workshops by CSIR NIO (under Jigyasa), etc.

REACH FOR THE SKY

Popular sections include ISRO’s ‘Space On Wheels’ mobile exhibition vehicle; Indian Knowledge System (IKS); and workshops by e-YANTRA (hosted by IIT Bombay).
