EVERGREEN

Plantations were, and are an integral part, of Goan backyards. Some featured large plantations of coconut, mango, and other trees, while others housed potted plants and vegetables nurtured within the backyard's embrace.

SERVANTS' SPACE

Most of the palatial houses would have several servants working for them. Therefore, a room in their backyard was kept for them.

THEIR SOLACE

Women found their day's solace in the backyards, where they could exercise their body with activities like sweeping, and sometimes eavesdropping to find out what's the fresh news or gossip in the village.
