ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

‘An Alternative Contemporary’ exhibition, currently on view at Sunaparanta Goa Centre for the Arts, Panjim, presents a modern interpretation of India’s miniature art, highlighting Pichwai art by three artists.

PICHWAI BASICS

Pichwai paintings, originating from Nathdwara in Rajasthan, are intricately detailed depictions of Lord Krishna, particularly in his form as Shrinathji. This one is by Piyush Sharma.

SACRED ART

‘Shrinathji Daan Pichvai’ is a painting by Piyush Sharma, a 14th-generation Pichwai artist  from Nathdwara dedicated to this sacred art form.

WHAT IT’S MADE OF

‘Krishna’s Eternal Presence’, by Rajat Sharma, is made using natural colours and includes real gold and silver on cotton cloth.

24 AVATARS

‘24 Swaroop Utsav Series’ by renowned Pichwai artist, Rajaram Sharma, depicts 24 holy festive forms of Lord Krishna.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Rajaram Sharma’s work is characterised by vibrant colours, intricate detailing and devotional themes.

CATTLE MOTIFS

This artwork by Piyush Sharma features cattle, an element associated with Lord Krishna, and an important motif in Pichwai painting.
