On the occasion of National Science Day, ‘Science Fiesta: An interface of Science & Society’ is currently being held at the Goa Science Centre and Planetarium, Miramar, Panjim.
The 3-day festival is being held from February 25 – 28 in collaboration with the State Dept of Science, Technology & Environment; and the Union Ministry of Culture, as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The fiesta was inaugurated by Director of CSIR National Institute of Oceanography, Goa, Prof Sunil Kumar Singh, while President of the Association of Friends of Astronomy, Satish Nayak, was the guest of honour.
Several scientific and research institutions are participating in the festival.
Some of the participating bodies include NIO, Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (Pune), LEGO Goa AXIOM, Dura-Line India Pvt Ltd, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (Mumbai).
There were interesting demos on vacuum & atmospheric pressure, dry ice, fibre optics, FTC robotics etc.
A liquid nitrogen show was one of the attractions at the fiesta.
Fun activities included foldoscope making, astrobiology workshop, water rocket workshop etc.
Fancy dress competition (Theme: Recyclable material), nuclear quiz and face painting competition (Theme: An Alien) were some of the contests for kids.
