Goa in the monsoons is pure nostalgia

MONSOON MORPHING

Goa is an amazing place. And, the monsoons elevate that experience in every sense — turning the land green, sending waterfalls into a roar, and filling kitchens with irresistible aromas — and bringing back fond memories.

PUDDLES AND PAPER BOATS

One of the simple joys of a childhood in Goa was racing paper boats through rain-filled puddles on a monsoon day.

CANDLE LIGHT DINNERS

Evenings often turned into candlelight dinners due to frequent power cuts, especially during a heavy downpour.

HOLIDAY NEWS

For children, waking up to the news that schools were closed because of the incessant rains was the best way to start the day!

THE GREAT INDOORS

Although the rain kept children indoors, they enjoyed hours of fun with books and board games, like Ludo and Snakes and Ladders.

HOT STUFF

The rains brought irresistible piping hot, comfort food — from spicy tonak or savoury Maharashtrian alu wadi to hot thalis to the ever-popular bhajiyas (fritters).

SENSORY DELIGHTS

And finally, watching seeds like mango, cashew and jackfruit sprout was, and is, one of the quiet joys of the season. So is the earth buzzing with the sights and sounds of insects and frogs emerging from their slumber.
