Summer is almost here, let's explore how Goans embrace and make the best of the hot weather.

CALL OF THE SEA

During the summer, it is customary, particularly for the elderly in Goa, to visit a beach and take a rejuvenating swim, believed to be beneficial for the skin and to beat the heat.

BERRIES BECKON

The forests in Goa offer various types of wild berries, some of which are edible. Children in the villages explore the forests to discover these berries and enjoy consuming them.

GO NUTS

Goa's summers mean plentiful cashews, the apples of which are used to extract juice which is fermented into urrak and feni (seasonal drinks). The cashew nuts are roasted and consumed.

A STITCH IN TIME

Prior to the arrival of heavy rain in June, which signifies the end of summer and beginning of monsoon, Goans occupy themselves with the task of repairing and replacing worn-out roof tiles.

SPRING SUCCOR

Goa is fortunate to have many springs that are said to have curative qualities. Locals prefer to take bathe at these springs to alleviate their health problems.

READY FOR RAIN

In earlier days, travelling during the monsoon season posed challenges, prompting residents to proactively dry necessary items like kokum, chillies and mangoes in advance for the lean season.
