JACKFRUIT

Unripe jackfruit, used in Goan gravies, has a mild flavour and a texture that resembles meat, making it a beloved ingredient in local cuisine.

BIBE

Bibe are raw cashew seeds, plucked from the tree, peeled and sold. Did you know that these seeds are used to make a delicious local gravy dish, called Bibenchi Bhaji.

BORAM

Packed with vitamin C, these juicy berries are pickled in some cultures owing to their tangy flavour and health benefits. They are available at local markets, and sell for as little as Rs 20 per paper cone.

KANTAM

Found mainly on Goan hillocks, these are a true Goan summer delicacy. Raw kantam are commonly used by Goans to make pickles or are preserved in brine.

SWEET POTATOES

This is the season to pick up sweet potatoes, sold by the kilo in local markets. They are usually enjoyed boiled, but for a Goan touch, try adding them to poha or mixing them with coconut and jaggery.

CASHEW APPLES

To enjoy cashew apples at their best, simply cut them in half and sprinkle a dash of local salt. These juicy fruits are also used to make bakri (roti) and even in dishes like Xacuti.
