A LOT IN A NAME

Originally named Chandivade after the abundant Macaranga Peltata (Chandivado) trees, the village later became known as Brahmakarmali, a name derived from Carambolim.

SACRED COMMAND

According to folklore, when the idol became too heavy to carry, the weary devotees rested on a hillock. Here, one of them dreamt of Brahmadev, who instructed them to worship him at that very spot.

The Brahmadev sculpture is one of the finest specimens of Goa Kadamba art. It features a beard on the central face and shows Brahmadev holding chanting beads in his right hand in a blessing posture.
