Made in Goa ship built for Maldives govt flagged off

Catamaran ship, Thimaaveshi, built by a Goa-based Vijai Marine Shipyard for Maldives government, was flagged off today from Goa.

The ship will be used by the Maldives government for research-oriented activities.

The FRP (fibreglass reinforced plastic) catamaran, the largest one built in Goa, is 30 meters in length.

The ship by the Rassaim-Loutolim-based firm has been built in technical association with IIT Kharagpur under World Bank project.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who flagged off the ship, said it was a proud moment for the Goan shipbuilding sector.

The ship can sail 100 nautical miles from the shore.

The flag-off ceremony was colourful with even King Momo descending on the venue flanked by musicians.
