New Year's first weekend in Goa keeps Drishti lifeguards on their toes

TO THE RESCUE

The New Year's first weekend saw Drishti lifesavers rescuing a 39-year-old male, from Russia, who was caught in a rip current at Baga beach in North Goa.

SAFETY SAVIOURS

In addition to the rescue at Baga, the lifesavers also saved a 40-year-old Russian woman from a rip current at Mandrem beach and a 38-year-old Belarusian woman at Calangute beach.

STAY SAFE

In light of these incidents, Drishti Marine has advised people to enter the waters of the sea in designated swim zones only.

WAVE CAUTION

Besides sticking to designated swim zones, they have advised tourists to avoid swimming alone and to be cautious of strong waves.

ESCAPE SAFELY

Rip currents pull swimmers out to sea. Lifesavers stress that if caught in a rip current, swimmers should stay calm and swim parallel to the shore, as fighting the current can lead to exhaustion.

They have urged tourists to seek advise and safety tips, if needed, before venturing into the water.

QUICK RESPONSE

In addition to drowning rescues, the Drishti lifeguards saved a 45-year-old Russian who was chased and bitten by a pack of stray dogs on Mobor beach and assisted a woman who was stung by a stingray off Velsao beach.
