NOT A STRAY PROBLEM

The problem of stray dogs in Goa can't be brushed aside by saying it is just another stray issue.

NEW INITIATIVE

The Corporation of the City of Panaji in its new initiative, Purple Up: Pets of Panaji, will create a database for registering stray dogs in the capital city and monitor their population.

For this initiative, the CCP has collaborated with Worldwide Veterinary Service, Mission Rabies, Panjim Animal Welfare Society and GoChip.

CHIP IT UP

Every dog registered will receive an anti-rabies vaccine and animal birth control surgery, and these details registered on the animal's microchip can be visualised using the GoChip smart phone app.

The main objective of this project is to create a safe and sustainable environment for people and dogs in the community.

CAN'T IGNORE

Around 11,500 persons were bitten by dogs in the first four months of this year in Goa.

Though Goa is rabies-free, it has not been able to control its problem of stray dogs.
