Panjim gets its first ‘smart road’

The state government inaugurated the first smart city road in front of Bal Bhavan, Campal, in Panjim on February 9, 2023.

The concrete road is lined with footpaths, has drainage and touches of greenery on the sides.

It comes complete with cycling lanes.

The road had been closed for over six months, causing inconvenience to commuters.

The Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) executed the work of the smart road.

Known as Development of Smart Roads, it is part of the Smart Cities Mission.

The Smart City Mission was launched in 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to the Centre, the Smart City Mission is an urban renewal programme to develop cities and make them citizen-friendly and sustainable.
