The Shri Kamakshi Temple is a beautiful temple located in the village of Shiroda, in Ponda taluka.

GETTING THERE

The temple is located at a distance of 22 km from Margao city and 36 km from the capital city of Panjim.

MAIN DEITY

The main deity of the temple is the goddess Kamakshi, who is a form of Parvati, consort of the Hindu god, Shiva.

PRETTY SIGHT

The temple, standing alongside the idyllic waters of the tank within the temple premises, makes for a very picturesque sight.

NEW MOON PROCESSION

Every time there is a new moon, thousands of devotees visit the temple, when a palanquin procession of the idol of Shri Kamakshi is taken around the temple premises.

FESTIVE MODE

The regular festivities of the temple are held during the Navratri/Dussehra period and during the zatra in spring.

A LIGHT MOMENT

A divja (lamp) procession is held at the temple during the zatra, when married Hindu women walk around the temple in the evening, holding divja, or clay lamps, which is a sight to behold.
