HERE COMES CARNIVAL!

One of the most exciting and thrilling time has arrived in Goa - the Carnival! However, in addition to that, there are also local celebrations that you definitely shouldn't overlook.

1. POTEKAR FESTIVAL IN DIVAR

Potekar is a interesting festival held on Divar island. It is a mix of Carnival and Halloween.

LITTLE ABOUT POTEKAR

The islanders dress up in outfits and masks similar to those worn on Halloween, wandering through the village to frighten locals, especially children. Additionally, they attach cowbells to their ankles and waists, creating sounds that can be heard from afar.

POTEKAR DATE?

This year, the festival begins on Sunday, February 11, 2024, and concludes on February 13, 2024. The best time to visit is on the last day in the afternoon when one can see potekars roaming the streets of Divar.

2. MUSSOLL KHEL

The village of Chandor is home to a traditional dance known as Musallam khel or Mussol nach, which is part of Goa's culture for over a century and is one of the oldest dance forms in the State.

MUSSOLL IN A NUTSHELL?

A mussol is basically a ‘pestle’ and hence the dance translates to ‘pestle dance’. It is a pounding pestle dance presented by the Christian Chardo (Christian Kshatriya) community of Chandor.

ITS UNIQUENESS

During Mussoll khel, you can find a Christian Chardos (Christian Kshatriyas) of Chandor wearing dhoti, jacket, pagdi, and ghungroos. They dance in a circular movement, holding pestles in their hands.

MUSSOLL DATE?

This year, Mussoll khel will take place on February 12, 2024 at Cotta - Chandor and on the following day, February 13, 2024 at Cavorim- Chandor.
