This Shigmo in Goa, get set to see women shine at the parade

EMPOWERING WOMEN

This year, for the first time, women will participate in the traditionally male-dominated Shigmo in Goa. These days, they have been rehearsing near the Sai Baba Temple in Malbat, Margao.

TRADITIONAL ATTIRE

Over 145 women, dressed in traditional nauvari sarees, nath (nose rings) and other ornaments will be seen at this year's Shigmo parade.

EXPERT GUIDANCE

The women are being trained by Shubham Subhash Naik, a dhol tasha instructor, who has grouped them based on their specific interests.

HELPING HAND

Husbands and fathers have been playing an important role in supporting the women as they embrace the typically male-dominated art form.

This initiative has been spearheaded by Usha Kamat, who, together with other women, established the group that puts women in the spotlight.

SHIGMO TIME

The Shigmo parades will take place from March 15 to March 29 across all major towns in Goa, beginning in Ponda and followed by Margao.
