AFTER RAMADAN

Eid ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, and is celebrated during the 10th month of the Islamic calendar.

THE DATE

This year, Eid ul-Fitr (meaning ‘the Festival of Breaking the Fast’), was celebrated on April 11 in Goa.

EID MUBARAK

On the occasion, Muslims were seen hugging and greeting each other, “Eid Mubarak.”

FESTIVE DRESSING

As with festivals, it is customary to wear new clothes on Eid day, too.

A TIME TO GIVE

Besides the special prayers recited on the occasion, zakat ul-fitr, an act of charity, is obligatory before beginning Eid prayers.

IN HARMONY

After the prayers, Muslims visit relatives, friends and acquaintances and also hold community celebrations.
