THE COUNT OF MAQUINEZES

Situated along the banks of river Mandovi, the Palacio dos Maquinezes (Maquinez Palace) was the residence of two siblings -- Diago da Costa de Ataide e Tieve and Cristovam da Costa de Ataide e Tieve.

HISTORIC

Built in 1702, the palace was also home to a medical institution, Escola Medico-Cirurgica de Nova Goa which subsequently came to be known as Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC).

DIVINE CONNECT

Many, including medical students back in the day attended the services at the chapel dedicated to Nossa Senhora de Victoria (Our Lady of Victoria) located within the premises of the palace.

Today, the office of Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), a government agency, is housed within the Maquinez Palace.
