Fiery red gulmohar trees are found in plenty in Goa’s capital city of Panjim, and at this time of the year, they add a pop of colour to the smart city.

HOW IT CAME TO GOA

Botanically known as Delonix Regia, this tree is believed to have been introduced to Goa from Madagascar by the Portuguese.

The tree is also known by other names including 'flame tree', 'flame of the forest', 'peacock flower' and 'Royal poinciana'.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE THEM

The vibrant gulmohar trees are abundant in Panjim's Altinho locality, with a few also gracing the streets of Campal and Miramar.

IN THE PARK

These stunning trees can also be spotted in some of Goa's scenic parks, including Joggers Park, Bhagwan Mahavir Children’s Park, Jardim Garcia de Orta, Azad Maidan and Menezes Braganza Garden.

The tree is in full bloom during April and May, with its flowers often extending into the beginning of Goa’s monsoon season.
