Wild and wonderful: Showcasing the forest vegetables of Goa

Adarsh Yuva Sangh, Gaodongrim, Cotigao, in association with the Goa State Biodiversity Board and Tribal Welfare Department, organised the first ‘Raanbhaji Utsav’ or forest vegetables exhibition at Canacona, earlier this month.

TRADITIONAL FLAVOURS

A variety of local dishes were served in traditional clay pots at the event.

MORE THE MERRIER

Over 200 dishes, made from 42 different wild vegetables were on display.

WILD & WONDERFUL

One of the wild vegetables on display at the exhibition was teniya bhaji, which is common in Goa.

COLOURS OF THE WILD

There was a colourful platter containing different dishes made from wild vegetables seen in the state.

TASTE OF THE WILD

Local vegetables like teniya bhaji, chaie bhaji, ek pana bhaji, gotisherya bhaji, kayriyo, harfule bhaji, kodvo bhaji, urpai, merevaili/gundure bhaji, kaljechi bhaji, chudtechi bhaji, to name a few, were featured at the exhibition.

MODERN TWIST

Apart from traditional preparations, there were also cakes and cutlets made from these local wild veggies.
