Besides the Mankurad mangoes, the markets in Margao are also selling a variety of ghontas and Alphonsos. Ghontas are a variety of mangoes found commonly in Goa. They are small ripe, sucking mangoes.

According to this seller, Narendra Naik, all the mangoes are procured from orchards around Margao like Raia, Fatorda and even Navelim.

GHONTA SANSAV

This is the season to prepare Ghonta Sansav, a spicy-tangy mustard-based preparation. Sansav comes from the word sansva which means mustard seeds in the local language.
