PANAJI: “Sthalpuran”, a Marathi film produced by Sanjay Shetye of Vinsan Productions and directed by Akshay Indikar has been nominated for the Crystal Bear Award at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival.
Speaking to media persons at Panaji on Saturday, executive producer Dnyanesh Moghe said that Berlin Film Festival is the second most important film festival in the world and `Sthalpuran' is only the fifth Marathi film to be selected for it. More importantly, it is the first ever Goan film to be screened at this prestigious ominent festival.
Producer Sanjay Shetye said that the film was written, edited and directed by Akshay Indikar, an ex-student of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).
Sthalpuran is the second film of Vinsan Productions, the first one being the widely acclaimed "Digant", directed by Dnyanesh Moghe, which was screened at the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI), International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and other prestigious international film festivals.
Moghe also added that this 'Sthalpuran' movie was shot in the interior areas of Pernem to give it an authentic look of Konkan and that the director deliberately chose to go with artistes that had a minimum or zero on screen experience.
“Additionally, the students of Vinsan Academy of Film and Media assisted technically with direction, production, camera and sound”, Moghe said.
The locations in the story explore the beautiful, unfamiliar rural interiors of the Konkan areas showcasing Konkan folk culture and its traditions. The movie was shot in two parts over 35 days and had a screen-time run of two hours and sees a combination of artistes from Goa as well as Maharashtra, added Moghe.
Shetye stated that `Sthalpuran' was their second venture and it has been extremely well received everywhere, despite having a niche audience. Its nomination for one of the most significant film festivals bears testimony to the incredible vision of the film's creative team and the efforts of all its crew and cast and according to him, it is an extremely proud moment for Vinsan Productions and is proud to be associated with this historic achievement.
The main cast in the film are Neel Deshmukh (Dighu, lead character), Anushree Wani (Durga sister), Shashank Shende (wanderer), Sonia Mahale (sister), Rekha Thakur (Dighu' mother), Shrikant Patil (grandfather), Medha Patil (grandmother), Deepa Moghe (teacher), Gajanan Zarmekar (teacher) and Surekha Naik (worker in the factory).
'Sthalapuran' is the story of Dighu, an eight-year-old boy who migrates to the coastal area of Konkan with his mother and elder sister. The film chronicles his experiences of the chaos brought on by this migration and forms the basis of the storyline. It narrates Dighu's attempt at forgetting the shadows of his past and his efforts to cope with the lingering ghost of his father's absence.
