Panjim has seen so many trends come and go, but this one is here to stay. Bubble tea or boba tea is a tea-based drink that originated in Taiwan in the 1980s. It later went on to have different variations and is loved by people all over the world.

Bubble tea is usually made of milk-based or non-milk-based flavoured tea and is accompanied by chewy tapioca balls commonly known as bubbles or boba. Aside from tapioca, there is also another type of boba known as bursting or popping boba, which has a thin gel-like skin with flavoured juice inside it that bursts in your mouth.

If there is anyone to thank for introducing bubble tea to the capital city, it is Fiona D’Souza, an entrepreneur from Panjim. She started Bubble Café in January 2021 after discovering boba tea in Hong Kong. She loved the concept and decided to open a café of her own and share this delicious beverage with the people of Panjim.

Fiona, who makes the bubble tea herself, has an appealing setting to serve it in. Her café has an attractive, bright-yellow interior and multi-coloured doodle art on its exterior walls.

Not compromising on quality, Bubble Café has a wide range of bubble tea options to choose from, which include matcha, brown sugar, vanilla, taro and blueberry.

Apart from bubble tea, the café also offers various shakes and eatables. The shakes menu lists Oreo, KitKat and creamy coffee shakes, and some of the eatables are bao buns, fresh fruit salad and sandwiches.

The café is usually busy in the evenings and attracts people from far and wide who travel to Panjim to savour boba tea, which is a novelty.
