‘Schools for Classes IX-XII in Goa may open before Diwali,’ says Pramod Sawant

On Monday, Goa’s Covid-19 expert committee recommended the government to reopen the schools for Classes IX and X, as well as higher secondary schools.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that reopening of schools for classes IX to XII is likely to happen before Diwali and the state Covid task force will meet soon to deliberate on expert committee recommendations.

Speaking to the reporters after attending the felicitation function of ZP members at Porvorim, Chief Minister Sawant said, “Although the recommendation to start actual classes in schools from class IX to XII in the state has been made by the expert committee of doctors, the task force will take the final decision. The education department will then take the school management into confidence and implement it. The action committee meeting will be held soon,”

On Monday, Goa’s Covid-19 expert committee recommended the government to reopen the schools for Classes IX and X, as well as higher secondary schools.

The expert committee also said that a plan of action in the form of appropriate SOPs would have to be drawn up by the government before deciding on the reopening.

The members also suggested that schools for lower classes should not be opened.
