ACGL workers go on strike, demand wage hike

Subhash George Naik, the legal adviser to the union, stated that the company was depriving the workers of their rights due to its arbitrary policy. “We demand an immediate settlement and justice for the workers,” he said.

The Automobile Corporation of Goa Limited (ACGL) employees went on a strike on Monday, hoping to get a hike in wages.

The union will strike for four days to make their voice heard as the management has yet not paid heed to their demands. A large police force comprising Deputy Collectors, case officers and police inspectors was deployed at 7 am as a special precaution to prevent any untoward incident.

According to the union, Company along with Labor Commission and the government have not discussed their issues for the past three years.

The workers have claimed that the company’s policy is anti-worker and harassing the workers in various ways. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has extended support to the union.

Subhash George Naik, the legal adviser to the union, stated that the company was depriving the workers of their rights due to its arbitrary policy. “We demand an immediate settlement and justice for the workers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Raghwendra Singh Butola, CFO at ACGL, said trade union workers should call off the strike and cooperate with the company. “The rising cost of spare parts has cost the company Rs 23 crore last year, so the management has not been able to meet the wage hike demanded by the workers,” he said.
