Bicholim: Bicholim mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit has directed Water Resource Department (WRD) officials to commence pumping of water from mining pits. He also directed the mine managers to render necessary assistance to the officials of WRD in order to prevent overflowing of mining pits during the forthcoming monsoon season. Pandit had convened a special meeting with the WRD officials and representative of mining companies functioning in Bicholim Taluka on Tuesday to review the arrangements of pumping of water from mining pits. During the discussion WRD Assistant Engineer, K P Naik informed the Mamlatdar that they have commenced with pumping of water from most of the mining pits and situation is monitored round the clock. Preventive measures are also undertaken by them to prevent overflowing of mining pits in the monsoon season. The officials of Mining Companies informed the Mamlatdar that they are rendering necessary assistance to the WRD officials to pump out water from mining pits. KP Naik Assistant Engineer WRD stated that they are coordinating with the officials of Tillari irrigation dam to prevent the occurrence of floods during the ensuing monsoon season. The Mamlatdar also directed the mining companies to comply with the guidelines issued by Directorate of Mines and Geology while transporting auctioned iron ore and comply with safety norms strictly. The Mamlatdar informed the WRD officials that a joint inspection will be conducted within a fortnight alongwith officials of Directorate of Mines and Safety to conduct the safety audit of mining pits. Representatives of Sesa Goa, Chowgule Company, Bandekar mining company, VM Salgaocar Mining company, DB Bandodkar were present during the meeting.
