PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Wednesday asked his party MLAs to prepare for the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections slated for March 15 this year.
Dr Sawant chaired the BJP legislature wing meeting at his Altinho residence where he also discussed about the State budget 2020-2021 to be presented in the Goa Assembly next month. A brief five-day session of Goa Assembly starts from February 3 while, the date for presentation of the budget was yet to be finalised by the business advisory committee (BAC).
"Exact date for the State budget presentation is not yet decided. Budget preparation has started. I will meet constituency heads, ministers etc separately for their inputs regarding the budget,” Sawant said.
The Chief Minister said that the Fifteenth Finance Commission would be on two-day visit in Goa and that he along with the his Cabinet colleagues and other officers would meet them on January 23.
It is learnt that durign the meeting some MLAs raised the issue of anti-CAA meeting to be held at Margao on Friday, January 24 as religious organisations were involved in mobilising people.
This time the opposition Congress party has declared that they will fight the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections on party symbol. In 2015 ZP polls, the Congress did not field candidates on party symbol but had backed its workers and supporters contesting the elections.
