Five Indian Super League (ISL) teams, including FC Goa, and three I-League teams will make their debut in the iconic Durand Cup tournament this year. The 130th edition of the tournament will be played in Kolkata from September 5- October 3, 2021.

Last year, this historic tournament was called off due to Covid-19 Pandemic. However, ISL teams and I-League teams have confirmed their participation in the tournament, according to the organizers on Monday. The tournament is organized by the Indian Army on behalf of the Armed Forces and this year West Bengal government is the joint organizer of the tournament. 

16 teams will take part in the tournament. Besides, FC Goa, Bangalore FC, Kerala Blasters, Jamshedpur FC add Hyderabad FC, I-league teams including Mohammedan Sporting, Gokulam Kerala and Delhi's Sudeva FC will feature in the tournament. The tournament will also see the participation of five teams from the Indian Armed Force.

At present, Gokulam Kerala is the holder of the Durand Cup. Gokulam won their maiden title under the coaching of Fernando Santiago Varela on August 24, 2019, defeating Mohun Bagan AC 2-1 in Kolkata.

The matches will be played at Vivekananda Yuva Bharti Stadium, Mohan Bagan Club Ground and Kalyani Municipal Stadium in Kolkata.

The Durand Cup is unique in the sense the winners are awarded three trophies with two rolling ones (the Durand Cup and the Shimla Trophy) and the President's Cup for permanent keeping.

The iconic Durand Cup is the third-largest football tournament in the world and one of the oldest tournaments in Asia. First organized in 1888 at Shimla, the tournament was limited to the British Indian Army.

Mohun Bagan and East Bengal are the 16-time Durand cup winners.
