Former Goa Congress president Irene Barros passed away on Sunday. She was 91.
She was former sarpanch of Betalbatim panchàyat and headed the Goa Congress in the early 80s. She was also nominated MLAs of the Goa assembly.
She is survived by a son and two daughters.
Several Congress workers condoled Barros death. Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat took to Twitter to pay tribute to her. He twitted: “Saddened by the passing away of former @INCGoa President Smt. Irene Barros. She was the First Sarpanch of Betalbatim. She will be remembered for her contribution during the Opinion Poll. My condolences to her family. May her soul rest in peace.”
The mortal remains of the former state president will leave her residence on Tuesday for the final rites at Betalbatim Church.
