Goa Forward Party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai on Tuesday said GFP has suspended talks of alliance with Congress. Sardesai has been nudging Congress to decide on a pre-poll alliance for the upcoming state assembly elections.

While the Congress party has adopted a policy of not being interested in alliance talks in Goa at present, we have also suspended talks with them on the issue," said Sardesai.

AICC observer for Goa elections, P Chidambaram, has been sidestepping questions related to a pre-poll alliance with ‘like-minded’ parties like GFP and NCP.

In August, Sardesai had informed that Congress’s desk in charge of Goa, Dinesh Gundu Rao, has given in-principle approval for an alliance. However, no announcement has been made till now.

He also lashed at Congress, asserting that people are demanding a united front against BJP. He said: "if they don't want to talk about the alliance, we don't want to talk to them either. However, the general public is demanding such an alliance. We will try to bring other like-minded forces together and give the people what they want. They should clarify whether the Congress wants to join it or not so that the people also know what is on the minds of the Congress"

He further said that the upcoming Goa assembly election is scheduled in the year 2022 and not 2027, accordingly political parties should plan for alliance soon.

Taking a dig at BJP, Sardesai said that all like-minded forces will come together till Dussehra to destroy BJP’s ‘Ravan Rajya’ in Goa.

Goa Forward Party will contest for 10 seats in the upcoming elections.
