The Goa state cabinet passed the Goa Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021, to omit ‘Daman and Diu’ from all Goa Acts and Rules. The bill will be introduced in the Monsoon session of the Goa Legislative Assembly.

When Goa was part of the erstwhile Goa Daman and Diu, several acts were passed by the legislature. However, Goa attained statehood and still several acts and legislation carried the expression Goa Daman and Diu in them. One such most important act was the Goa Daman & Diu Administration Act of 1962. Thus, it is proposed to omit Daman and Die title from all such acts.

Earlier, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had proposed the move to omit the expression in his statehood speech.
