Goa reports five road mishaps in a day; six people died

Five different road accidents took place at various locations in Goa on Monday, in which six people lost their lives including two policemen. The accident were reported in Bambolim, Arpora, Querim, Canacona, and Ponda.

Two police personnel were killed in separate road mishaps in Canacona and Pernem.

Naresh Narvekar (53), an assistant Sub-Inspector at the Pernem transport office, was killed in a car accident at Querim at 1.15 pm. While Naresh Narvekar was on his way home when he was hit by a jeep and died on the spot. 

In another incident, Sandesh Balsu Bhagat was killed after his motorcycle rammed into a stray cattle in Canacona.

In Arporam, a Pune couple died after the car in which they were travelling fell into a creek at Arpora.

According to the officials, the accident took place around 5.30 am on Monday near the creek along the border between Calangute- Arpora village in Bardez Taluka. The deceased couple from Pune city identified as Shubham Nitin Dedge (28) and Ishwari Deshpande (25) were in Goa for holidays.

"The driver lost control of the car, it overturned and plunged into the creek. They had come here for holidays and were residing at a nearby hotel," stated Suraj Gawas, Police Inspector from Anjuna.

Akshay Parsekar, Sub-inspector who is investigating this case said, ' the two were wearing the wristbands, we believe that they had visited a club the night before".

In a separate incident, three youths from Porvorim got into an accident at Bambolim around 10.30 last night. While speeding, the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle hit a pole and then hit a two-wheeler. Viral Mehta (26) was killed on the spot in the accident. The driver, Arun Rai, is in critical condition while a woman near the two-wheeler has fractured her leg, said Police

Another accident took place at the junction at Valpoi, Ponda. The truck was electrocuted at the junction. However, fortunately, no casualties were reported. The accident happened involved a tempo and a two-wheeler, with the two-wheeler being injured. It was not immediately clear who caused the accident.
