Goa ZP elections on March 15

PANAJI: The State Government on thursday issued a notification announcing that the elections to 50 constituencies of Zilla Panchayat on March 15. The elections would be held on party lines. 
Speaking to GT, State Election Commissioner R K Srivavstava informed that the schedule for the electin process will be issused by Goa State Election Commission in February, once the electoral rolls are prepared.

"This time, notification has only been issued for notifying the date of poll which has been done by an order issued by Secretary (Panchayats). As per law, we propose a date for holding poll, which is approved by the State Government and accordingly a notification has been issued on January 10," he said. Speaking further, he said, "The schedule for election process willl be announced by us in February. This has not been done because the electoral rolls are under preparation. The returning officers are the deputy collectores who are right now making the electoral roll for each ZP constituency. This is time taking exercise and once that is done, we will issues the election schedule." Congress, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have already announced thier plans to contest ZP polls. During the meeting of its central committee and working committee held in Panaji, MGP has decided to cotest ZP polls.
