PANAJI: The Goa government has asked all its departments, semi-government corporations and autonomous bodies to exempt their employees from marking biometric attendance in the Aadhar Based Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) till March 31, 2020, as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection.

The Goa government memorandum was issued on Monday in view of the office memorandum issued by the Government of India to a similar effect on Friday. “It is learned that the most common method of transmission of virus seems to be through infected surfaces. Therefore, it is desirable to avoid touching surfaces which might be infected due to human touch,” states the order.

In the office memorandum, the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievance and Pensions, Government of India had said, "Though only a small number of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases are reported in our country that but keeping in view the nature of the virus, it is a must to take all possible preventive measures to stop the spread of the virus."
