Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday said that the Portuguese- era Hospicio hospital will be repaired and only health services will be given priority.
“Hospicio hospital has a long history. It involves the emotions of many cowherds. Although the construction of the hospital is in a state of disrepair and many of its departments have been shifted to the new South Goa District Hospital, the building will be completely repaired with central government funds and only health services will be given priority,” said Rane said during his visit to Margao.
He further said the hospital will not be converted into a museum. “The government has permitted the health department to repair this hospital with central government funds. The old identity of this hospital will be maintained. We will also start a welfare centre and rehabilitation centre in the hospital,” Valpoi MLA said.
The shifting of Hospicio to the new South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) was started on Tuesday and is almost complete. All the OPDs will be functional from October 16 onwards.
