President of India Ramnath Kovind is slated to visit Goa on a three-day tour, starting on September 5, 2021. However, this visit has created a difficult situation for the administration and especially for the  Raj Bhavan officials. It is a tradition that the president and his entourage stay in the Raj Bhavan while visiting the state.

But the Raj Bhavan building hasn’t been in very good condition and hence the president’s visit has pushed the officials to work round the clock to improve the situation. An inspection by the technical department of the Public Works Department also found that the structure of the Raj Bhavan was weak.

Hence, the government had expressed its intention to build a new Raj Bhavan. But due to financial reasons, the government had decided to carry out the necessary repairs and renovations of the existing Raj Bhavan building without constructing a new one.

There were instances like the breaking of a light bulb when the president last visited Goa. Hence, to improve these shortcomings, the secretary to the Governor, Mihir Vardhan called a meeting of administrative officers at Raj Bhavan today.

The palace is surrounded by 88 acres of land and housed the archbishop and later the Portuguese governor. After the liberation, the palace was renamed the Raj Bhavan and declared as the Governor's residence.
