The Directorate of Education has issued a circular to government-aided higher secondary schools to increase the student admission capacity for class XI by 15 per cent, only for the current academic year.

“During the present COVID-19 crisis, the directorate of education was requested by the parents and the students to intervene in the matter of admission(s) in various higher secondary schools across the state and the problems faced by them, due to the higher number of students passing in each section than usual,” said the  circular  issued by education director Bhushan K Savaikar.

“The government has now decided and directed to permit every government and government-aided higher secondary school in the state to allow and admit additional fifteen per cent students, apart from their normal/ nominal intake capacity for the present academic year 2021-22, as per the prescribed rule(s) in force,” it added.

“The present circular will be strictly in force only for the present academic year, 2021-22, for all the streams, that is arts, commerce, science and vocational,” the circular stated, pointing out, “However, no additional financial grant(s)/ incentive(s) or teacher will be provided to the schools.”

After the Class X exam was cancelled, high schools carried out the internal student assessments for the final results, which saw nearly all students clearing the exams.

The passing percentage for class X was 99.7 per cent, almost 6 per cent higher than last year’s pass percentage. The high number of students passing the exams has resulted in a rush for Class XI admissions.
