Former Panaji Mayor and close aide of BJP MLA Atanasio Monserrate, Uday Madkaikar joined Congress on Saturday as the party prepare to wrest control of Taleigao, Panaji and Santa Cruz from BJP.

This comes a day after former aides of Monserrate including former CCP Tony Rodrigues, Daya Karapurkar, Nagesh Karishetty and several others joined Congress.

The Congress party had inducted several members during the last few days to create a wave for the party in Panjim.

People of Panaji and Taleigao are eager to make a revolution. In the coming elections, Congress candidates will be elected in both seats. The family rule of Monserrat is going to be hit hard this time. He has done nothing for Panaji,” said state Congress president Girish Chodankar.

Reiterating that Congress is in touch with BJP disgruntled cadre, leader of opposition in Assemble Digambar Kamat made it clear that ten MLAs who left the party to join would not be allowed to reenter the party.

Although Congress had made no promises of giving the ticket to new entrants, Rodrigues and Uday have made their intention clear to contest the election.

Madkaikar also said they will work towards ending Monserrate family rule. “We have been with them for the last twenty-two years. But without believing anyone, he changed many parties. This time, however, we will end the family rule from Panaji and Taleigao.”
