FC Goa defeated Army Green 2-0 in their opening match in Durand Cup on September 7, 2021

With only one foreign player and a young squad, FC Goa opened their account in the Durand Cup on Tuesday with a solid victory as they defeated Army Green 2-0 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Stadium in Kolkata.

FC Goa’s Alberto Nogera scored the first goal in the 35th minute. The Spaniard broke through the Army Green's defence and then knocked it past the keeper Sarath Narayanan.

With five minutes left in the break, Devendra Murgaonkar had a chance to score, but couldn’t convert the opportunity.

In the second half, Murgaonkar redeemed himself and scored Goa’s second goal. Substitute Romario Jesuraj put up a nice assist for Murgaonkar in the 59th-minute to seal the victory for the Gaurs.

FC Goa will now play against Sudeva Delhi FC on Monday. Currently, FC Goa and Jamshedpur FC have three points each in group B.
