17 kiosk owners were detained on Monday morning outside Goa Medical College (GMC) at Bambolim for protesting against the removal of their carts two months ago.
The Police also detained BJP leaders Rama Kankonkar and Ramarao Wagh after they joined the protest.
The vendors claimed that they were assured about a cart inside the GMC premises. The vendors now demand a proper settlement.
Earlier, St Andre MLA Francisco Silveira and St Cruz MLA Antonio Fernandes had approached the chef Minister to rehabilitate kiosk operators and fruits vendors. However, two months on, the kiosk operators are still not rehabilitated.
Several kiosks structures outside the GMC Complex were demolished in July. The fruit and vegetable vendors were also told to remove their stalls from the place where they were conducting business for over two decades. At the time, Angry kiosk owners had slammed the government over the demolition drive.
