The COVID-19 pandemic had disrupted the 2019-20 Goa Pro League season. In response to the situation, the Goa Football Association (GFA) has scrapped the relegation rule, allowing Sesa FC to continue in the Pro League despite being bottom of the table. This rule was adopted by the I-league, allowing NEROCA FC to remain in the league without being relegated. Then GFA applied the same rule, allowing Sesa FC to retain their position in the Pro League, despite finishing 12th. Like last year, this season of the Pro League will be played in two rounds, the championship round and the relegation round.
The pandemic also caused the cancellation of the GFA First Division League’s 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. According to GFA, this important local tournament will be played in January 2022, alongside the under-20 age group tournament.
The GFA state-level tournament starts on September 19, 2021, with the annual fundraising match that will be played on the same day. GFA is also planning to play the Police Cup before the start of Pro League football, which starts from the first week of October. The decision was made by GFA's management committee in a recent meeting.
