Goa's leading women's badminton player Tanisha Crasto along with Odisha's Rituparna Panda have been selected in the Indian team for the Thomas-Uber Cup and Sudirman Cup.
In the last week of August, the Tanisha and Rituparna defeated experienced veterans Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy. They also defeated the national champions Shikha Gautam and Ashwini Bhatt to clinch their spot in the Indian team.
Tanisha has previously represented India in international competitions at the junior level. She is also the current winner of the National Junior Mixed Doubles. Tanisha is the only Goan athlete to be included in the TOPS Olympic Plan created by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The Sudirman Cup will be held in Finland from 26 September to 3 October. Then from 9 October, Thomas-Uber Cup will start in Denmark.
There are 10 players each in the women's and men's teams for the Thomas and Uber Cup, while there is a 12-member squad for the Sudirman Cup. Two-time Olympic medalist P. V. will be unavailable for both events according to the Indian Badminton Association (IBA).
