Goa Professional League: Dempo Club and Churchill Brothers playout a goalless draw

Dempo Sports Club and Churchill Brothers settle for a goalless draw in the Goa Professional League Football Tournament at Duler Stadium in Mapusa on Monday.

hurchill Brothers were given a free-kick from outside the box after a rough tackle by Dempo's Desmon Pereira on Thangjam Singh In just the early minutes of the match. However, Quan Gomes stepped forward and took a direct shot only to see it denied by the woodwork.  

Dempo also had a similar opportunity as Churchill defender Jovel Martin tackled Dempo’s Vieri to give away a free-kick. Suraj Hadkonkar tried to find Edwin Viegas in front of the goal but were called offside.

In the 52nd minute of the match, Dempo Club had a golden opportunity to take the lead, but Aman Govekar went awry.

In the 70th minute, substitute Velanco Rodrigues failed to score at an open goal from a Suraj Hadkonkar's cross, leaving Dhempo disappointed.

The best chance for The Red Machine came in the added minutes, as substitute striker Afdal Varikkodan easily got past three defenders in his run from the halfway line and went for glory from inside the box. But, Dempo gloveman Dylan made a diving effort to push the ball for a corner.
