'Festa do Povo' showcases another side of Panjim's Latin Quarter, Fontainhas

PEOPLE'S FEST

The first 'Festa do Povo', a festival 'of the people, by the people' was held on Dec 9 & 10, and was a celebration of local culture.

HERITAGE VENUE

The 2-day festival was held in the beautiful lanes of Sao Tome and St Sebastiao wards, both of which are located in Panjim's iconic Latin Quarter.

FESTIVE VIBES

The Latin Quarter of Fontainhas was transformed by the fest, which saw active participation by residents of the locality.

MUSIC TO THE EARS

There were beautiful traditional mandos, dulpods, fados and popular Konkani songs. Children's choir 'Ektaal', trained by Nayantara Mascarenhas De Lima Leitao, delighted listeners with their melodious Christmas carols.

ART OF THE MATTER

In addition to live caricature sessions, beautiful art, created by well-known artists as well as students of the Goa College of Art were on display.

CROWD-PULLER

People were seen enjoying the festival, which was supported by the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) and fueled by community crowdfunding.

LOCAL FLAVOUR

Stalls, selling a variety of traditional Goan breads, snacks and other delicacies, were also set up by local bar and restaurant owners.
